Innovation Engineer

The Department

As an Innovation Engineer you are part of a small sub-department at the Engineering Control Technology department. The department consists of 90 people working on new, improved heat modules, i.e. heaters, room controllers and connectivity products such as the Nefit Easy, which are sold internationally every day.

Their total R&D department consists of approximately 200 engineers (with backgrounds in electrical engineering, IT and mechanical engineering) who work as Product designer or developer, are active in the workshops or measuring stations, laboratories and prototypes, carry out simulations or are linked to their production.

The Innovation department is responsible for devising and managing innovative ideas for electronics and software in the heating business (boilers, heating systems and connectivity products).

The function

As an Innovation Engineer you will be involved in designing innovative solutions to improve technologies, products and research techniques and to make processes as cost-effective as possible. To this end, you gather and evaluate information that is relevant to their products and their industry. You ensure that the rest of the department is up-to-date with the latest state of the art and you are researching the latest technologies that are available in the market. Other common tasks include taking part in brainstorming workshops to generate ideas, realizing proof of concepts and prototypes, simulating calculations and measurements to validate ideas and participating in multidisciplinary (international) consultations (as experts). You have frequent contact with other companies, research institutes and other departments and inform them. You assist in making publications and applying for patents. Finally, you supervise students and graduates.

Your profile

• A Bachelor or University degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or similar. A specialization towards control engineering is an advantage.
• A thorough electrotechnical knowledge, including experience with real-time embedded systems, simulation tools, reading and understanding of circuit diagrams, control signals and processor input and experience with the development of embedded hardware and software in a real time operating system environment.
• Extensive work experience (5+ years) within a Research environment,
• Work experience within a product development environment,
• Well developed communication skills and a proactive attitude,
• A good command of the English language; good German language skills are an advantage.
